Are eclairs your fave indulgence? Forget the ordinary choc-and-cream offering in favour of a fresh and fragrant passion fruit filling. You’ll find this recipe – along with loads more – in Patisserie Made Simple. Indeed, Edd Kimber has produced a selection of diet-destroying lusciousness most bakers will feel confident about making. We specially fancied raspberry tarts, gateau au chocolat, lemon pound cake, pistachio cherry souffles, caramelised pineapple crepes, chocolate sables and blood-orange marshmallows. Kyle Books, R309
We definitely wouldn’t mind a slice (or two) of the Chocolate Mozart cake from Chateau Gateaux. Just think: Layers of Japonaise (soft meringue with seasonal tree nuts) with decadent chocolate cream and whirls of ganache, topped with white chocolate flakes. Sounds divine, right? Order yours now for R363. Details: www.chateaugateaux.co.za.
Let’s face it … Easter isn’t Easter without Lindt. This year there are loads of luxury bunnies and eggs to choose from, but our favourite is the Lindt Gold Bunny Flowers Edition … a new bunny hopping onto the shelves. She’s milk chocolate, very pretty and very delish! R89.95.
Chocolate. Yes, please. Whiskey Mash. Of course. Chocolate Moonshine. Oh swoon! This month we’re loving the all-new, all American-style Southern Moonshine … a range that’s handmade in small batches in South Africa, with each bottle numbered and signed off by the master distiller. Flavoured whiskey is fast becoming the new big thing (move over, craft gins) … and no wonder. This Southern Moonshine range is smooth and delicious … the Chocolate Moonshine spirit aperitif is a combination of dark chocolate and black coffee … enjoy it straight up as a shooter, over crushed ice or with your favourite mixer. It comes in a bespoke moonshine jug with a nifty finger hole that emulates the easy-going spirit of the American South. You’ll find it at good bottle stores for around R260. #GetYourShineOn
We have to be honest. We’re not going to keep our bottle of TOKARA RESERVE COLLECTION ELGIN SAUVIGNON BLANC 2017 until 2027. It will, according to the Tokara vineyards winemaker, benefit from aging until then, but luckily, he tells us, it drinks well now too. Which it does (we tasted … it was the polite thing to do). A beautiful pale straw colour with vibrant green on the rim, there are aromas of fresh guavas, asparagus, lemon grass and fresh cut grass … and the taste is all fresh citrus and grapefruit flavours. Serve it well chilled, as an aperitif or with special, spoil-yourself dishes such as fresh wild oysters, asparagus with hollandaise sauce or fresh grilled yellowtail with salsa verde. Cellar door price is R135.
