Filing a missing person’s report

Everything you need to know about filing a missing person’s report

The increasing number of women being abused and murder has made headlines recently.

It is therefore important that you know what to do when a loved one goes missing.

Firstly, before heading to social media to raise awareness, you need to report it to the police immediately.

If you’re worried about being turned away, you’ll be pleased to know there is no waiting period for filling a missing person’s report.

What do you need to file a report?

– A recent photo of the missing person.

– A complete description of what the person was wearing when they went missing, where they were last seen and any other information that might come in handy such as who they were with and who they were going to meet.

You’ll also be required to complete and sign an SAPS 5S(A) form.

Be sure to obtain the contact details of the investigating officer so you can contact them should any other information become available.

If a missing person’s report has been filed and the missing person is found or returns home, the investigating officer must be notified immediately and an SAP 92 form must be completed.
